CANCELED DUE TO RAIN! (and Christopher has COVID) GM Class (Learn to be a Helper or GM)
January 20, 2024 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Hello All FANWAR Parents and Players,
As many of you may have already heard, my wife Molly tested positive for COVID-19 today while I was at LARP. After she called to tell me, I immediately tested as well and discovered I was positive too! I isolated from the students, and luckily had set up James as my assistant on site to run everything for me during this time. Because of this development, the following events will be adjusted in their structure. Please take any precautions you wish to ensure you comfort and safety.
-Tomorrows event, in Sebastopol is now being run by James instead of me. Jack and Nick will assist James in running the event, which will occur from 1pm-6:30pm as usual at Willard Libby, but I (Christopher) will not be there at all. If this makes you uncomfortable, feel free to stay home with a full refund for the day.
-Friday’s Event in Cotati at Helen Putnam City Park is now CANCELED. Heavy rain was already predicted that day, but with the addition of my COVID positive state, I cannot do the event even if the weather were to change.
-Saturday’s Event in Palo Alto at Mitchell Park will now be run by Derek Kim, who will be assisted by members of the Game Master Class (also known as the GM Class), but I (Christopher) will not be there at all. If this makes you uncomfortable, feel free to stay home. These players are training to be Game Masters and run their own events, and this day provides they with an excellent opportunity for practicing their missions and quests. They will be helping setup and cleanup. Saturday may be a little rainy, so be prepared for that if you attend.
-Saturday Evenings GM Class at Mitchell Park is now CANCELED. Rain is predicted, and I cannot attend.
Hopefully I will be testing negative by next week and we can resume classes with me there. But as many of you are aware, Molly (my wife) has a compromised immune system, and COVID is particularly problematic for her. If she is not doing well by next week, I will cancel more events to stay home and take care of her. Look for noticed next Tuesday or so to see if the week is on.
All my best,
Christopher Melville

The GM Class is for players twelve and up only, who are ready to take the next step from being just players in the game to being Helpers and/or Game Masters. The class meets once a month and covers a lot of classroom management skills, practice with difficult children, game design concepts, historical information, game balance issues, world building, and much more. Player sign up for one year, and must commit to volunteering for at least one Summer Camp where they will practice their skills. At the end of this class, players must turn in a portfolio of each assignment that was due each month and write an essay on what they have learned, how they have changed, and what they still need to do to grow. See Christopher for more information. This class is being held in Palo Alto this year, right after the Character League at Mitchell Park on the third Saturday of the month.
