CANCELED Due to Field Saturation! – 3/22/18 (Meeting at Griffins Nest instead) Sebastopol Weekly League!

March 22, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 7:00 pm
$20 – $40

Hello Thursday League LARP Families,

While the rain is suppose to stop around 1pm tomorrow and we might get some sun, the fields will be so wet by then that I don’t feel it will be safe to run larp at Willard Libby Park. The forecast is for up to two inches just overnight, and that will saturate most areas. So we will again be meeting at Griffins nest from 1:30pm-7pm for Table Top Role Playing and Magic. The players went on a quest last time that took them to an old mansion they are still exploring. We will continue that mission and see where it leads them now that they have the coded papers to decipher. Player are also welcome to bring D&D materials or Magic if that is there preferred activity. See you all there.

Live Action Role Playing is a tremendous teaching tool and capable of dynamic, physically driven learning that transcends the usual boundaries of standard education. Due to the interactive, dramatic, hands on methods used in LARP, teaching is often effortless and fun. Players explore concepts from history, linguistics, political studies, geography, psychology, literature, mythology, engineering, science, mathematics, fine arts, team building, and much, much more in a single session and often don’t even realize they are learning due to the fact that they are the active participant in the process, not the passive receiver.
This event takes place in two parts, weekly, in Sebastopol at Willard Libby Park. The first session is from 1:30pm-4pm and trains players in the game, as well as continues an ongoing story the players themselves are involved in creating. The second session from 4:30pm-7pm continues this story and expands upon it, challenging players to follow through on their projects and connect to those of others. This class provides an after school activity that is social, physical, and mentally challenging in a time when kids more and more are finding sedentary, electronic alternatives to real human interactions. Both sessions involve players making and role playing as characters in a shared imaginary world that spans the Bay Area and has hundreds of players continuously involved in collaborating on the process of storytelling and adventure. These events also tie into the weekend events and other leagues which have been a tradition in the area for the past fifteen years. Players must learn to battle with safe larp weaponry, solve intricate story elements, role play as a wide variety of monsters and creatures of the world, and manage their resources carefully. LARP is helping transform the lives of children all across the Bay Area and beyond.
