SUMMARY:Winter LARP Festival (Palo Alto)!
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: Saturday\, December 21st – 6:00pm -9:00 pm (setup begins at 5:00pm – cleanup until 9:30)\n\nWHERE: Cubberley Community Center (Room H6)\n4000 Middlefield Rd\nPalo Alto\, CA 94303\n\nCOST: $20 per player\n\nPARENT SUPERVISION:\n– Quest/Character/Club players age 13 and older may attend without parent supervision. But player must have an emergency phone contact and parent must be back at the site by 9:30 pm.\n– All Battle League players\, all players 12 and under\, and ALL NEW PLAYERS\, must have a responsible adult on site.\n\nFOOD/DRINK: No food\, except what players bring to sell for gold in the market. So bring snacks.\n\nWHAT:   We begin with a silent auction\, and then move into a role play event. Players\, parents\, and friends are invited to attend in costume (if you wish) as their characters\, or villagers (props will be provided as usual\, please bring your own musical instrument if desired). Participants will be involved in an ongoing adventure in a market\, buying\, selling\, trading\, dancing\, singing\, playing at sport\, or debating in their respective roles. Upon arrival\, participants will be given a collection of gold to spend at the festival to ensure a lively and active market!\nAll Quest/Character leagues are invited (but the setting will be in Mithil Grisodedin in the Roekron game world of Christopher’s LARP.  We have permission to use the athletic fields for some of our games\, so we will be able to do a few matches or skirmishes if the weather is good.\n\n\nFor Tony Quest Players: Tony’s world is set in a world called Teriock.  If you play Tony\, but not Chris\, you don’t have a Roekron based character to play at the festival. Here are your options:(1) If you play advanced with Tony in Berkeley – play a baddy for cost of $10. You will be NPC’s roles the GM needs (and will still have an opportunity to purchase real world items).\n\n(2) Play a Merchant from Teriock. You will play a merchant connected with your character who is doing business on your behalf. You will make gold\, but not gain a level. You will have the opportunity to run your own booth as well.\n(3) Travel a Character. Your character will not be playable during the travel which usually takes 1 week to arrive and 1 week to return. You do NOT receive the entry gold\, as it is assumed this was the cost you paid for your ships travel. You also may be subject to at sea encounters or sinking.\n\nVENDORS: If you would like to be a vendor\, and sell or trade homemade items at the festival\, you will need to bring a few key things. You will need a  tablecloth\, or a blanket to set on the floor or table to display your wares. You will need some place to store your money from purchases as well as a way to make change for people who buy your items. You will also need price tags.  These can be hand made and should display either a dollar value (indicated by the “$” sign) or a gold value (indicated by a “g.p.”) or both (you can sell something for $1 dollar AND 1 g.p. if you like). The goal is to provide a fun and memorable event\, and for everyone to benefit in the process.  PLEASE NOTE- Food and drinks cannot be sold for real world money at this event\, only game world gold (see below for ways to get refunded for your food costs). \nPossible items for vendors to sell are as follows: \nFood (cookies\, chocolate\, treats\, fruit\, baked goods\, kabobs\, popcorn\, etc. but keep in mind it should be served in a way that fits the fantasy setting) [NOTE- food can only be sold for game world money\, not real world money] If you would like bring more expensive food\, you can have Christopher purchase it from you before the event\, and then sell it only for game money (thus you CAN make money if you bring food). \n\nDrinks (water\, apple cider\, hot chocolate\, juice\, soda\, etc. again\, keep in mind it should be served in a way that fits the fantasy setting).  [NOTE- drinks can ONLY be sold for game world money\, not real world money]\n\nCharacter Costume Pieces: Belts\, rings\, amulets\, shirts\, boots\, cloaks\, bags\, etc. Costumes CAN be sold for real world money ($)\n\nLARP Weaponry (daggers\, arrows\, swords\, axes\, bows\, shields\, armor\, wands\, staves\, etc.) Make sure your items pass safety checks. Anything sold that does not pass safety will have to be refunded.  LARP Weaponry CAN be sold for real world money ($)

SUMMARY:Online- Zephandira! Sebastopol LARP League
DESCRIPTION:This league has moved online for now and also has moved to the Third Saturday of the month.  If you play this league then you know where to find the doc. \nThis League is for more advanced players who enjoy a change in the game and story from many other leagues.  The league follows a plot line that only occurs at this event\, and so allows players in this league to track the entire story and only have to come to this one event.  The play level is challenging but the rules are the same. \nThis event takes place in two parts\, once a month\, in Sebastopol at Willard Libby Park.  The first session is from 10:00am-1:00pm and trains players in the game\, as well as continues an ongoing story the players themselves are involved in creating. The second session from 2:00pm-5:00pm continues this story and expands upon it\, challenging players to follow through on their projects and connect to those of others. \nFor more on Why LARP is a tremendous teaching tool. Check out the links below!\nhttp://www.fanwar.com/e107_files/downloads/WhyPlayLARP.pdf \nSign Up Forms and more information is available on the home page and below.)

SUMMARY:Sebastopol Weekly League (Winter Hours!)
DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP FORMS HERE \nUpdate: our rain procedure is to spend the first session at Griffins Nest playing games and the second session at Coffee Cats role playing as characters in a Festival style.  We will reserve the back room and enjoy the Celtic harps and fiddle music that sets the mood for our event. \n——- \nLive Action Role Playing is a tremendous teaching tool and capable of dynamic\, physically driven learning that transcends the usual boundaries of standard education. Due to the interactive\, dramatic\, hands on methods used in LARP\, teaching is often effortless and fun. Players explore concepts from history\, linguistics\, political studies\, geography\, psychology\, literature\, mythology\, engineering\, science\, mathematics\, fine arts\, team building\, and much\, much more in a single session and often don’t even realize they are learning due to the fact that they are the active participant in the process\, not the passive receiver.\nThis event takes place in two parts\, weekly\, in Palo Alto at Mitchell Park. The first session from 12:15pm-2:45pm and trains players in the game\, as well as continues an ongoing story the players themselves are involved in creating. The second session from 3:15pm-5:45pm continues this story and expands upon it\, challenging players to follow through on their projects and connect to those of others. This class provides an after school activity that is social\, physical\, and mentally challenging in a time when kids more and more are finding sedentary\, electronic alternatives to real human interactions. Both sessions involve players making and role playing as characters in a shared imaginary world that spans the Bay Area and has hundreds of players continuously involved in collaborating on the process of storytelling and adventure. These events also tie into the weekend events and other leagues which have been a tradition in the area for the past ten years. Players must learn to battle with safe larp weaponry\, solve intricate story elements\, role play as a wide variety of monsters and creatures of the world\, and manage their resources carefully. LARP is helping transform the lives of children all across the Bay Area and beyond. \nFanwar Camps \n(Sebastopol – Winter 2019-20) \nWinter Hours 12:15-2:45pm & 3:15-5:45pm! \n  \nInformation \n  \nRegistration: New players can only join on the first event of the month.  All families must pre-register for this event. There are a limited number of spaces available. Registration and payment are required to save your spot. To register fill out registration form and e-mail to christophermelville@fanwar.com or turn in to Christopher Melville at a Fanwar event. Payment may be given to Christopher at a Fanwar event\, sent via PayPal at the above email address\, or sent in the mail (PO BOX 149\, Graton CA 95444).  Make checks payable to Christopher Melville or Fanwar LARP and please write your child’s name on the check as well. \nReminder: We are a group of families that get together to hire a gamemaster. At most events\, adults are required to remain on site. HOWEVER: because this event is during the week and is a succession of weekdays\, this requirement is being waived for this event only\, provided you have emergency contacts on file with the organizer and your child does not pose a significant risk to the flow\, safety\, or management of the event.  All children who do not have adults on hand to chaperon them must demonstrate that they are responsible and cooperative and cannot leave the premises for the duration of the camp hours with express written permission (see below). \nCost: Players sign up for one month at a time.  They must pay for the entire month on the first event of the month.  Players are not allowed pay for each day they attend\, but must make one payment of the total they attend.  If they do not attend all the sessions\, they may apply the credit to future events.  Trades for crafting of supplies and repair work is also accepted for those who wish to play a lot but keep the costs down.  See Christopher for projects to do as trade. \nLocation: The camp is being held at Willard Libby Park\, in Sebastopol.  We usually meet near the Bocce Ball Court\, but may have to relocate depending on what other events are happening in the park that week. \nWhat to bring: Students need to bring food (if attending both sessions)\, clothing for variation in the weather\, as well as adequate sun protection and good athletic shoes.  Costumes and props are also a wonderful addition to our events. \nFood and Water: As mentioned above\, food and water are not provided\, and students must bring their own food for this event each day if they are attending both sessions. \nSchedule: We plan to meet every Thursday and begin in the afternoon with the first session from 12:15pm-2:45pm and the second from 3:15pm-5:45pm.  Each session is a series of missions\, training\, and role-playing encounters.  (If you need early drop off or late pickup- contact me) \n  \nNOTE: The Payment System has changed.  Players must pay at the start of the month for the whole month (see me if this is a problem for you.  Credit is applied for any days did not attend that month.)  No paying per day. \n  \nDates: \n\nNovember (7th\,15th\,21st) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\n  \n\nDecember (5th\,12th\,19th) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\n  \n\nJanuary (9th\,16th\,23rd\,30th) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\n  \n\nFebruary (6th\,13th\,20th\,27th) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\nFor more on Why LARP is a tremendous teaching tool\, check out the links below!\nhttp://www.fanwar.com/e107_files/downloads/WhyPlayLARP.pdf \nSign Up Forms and more info is available on the home page and below!

SUMMARY:Ukiah Winter League at Todd Grove Park at Ukiah Library due to rain!
DESCRIPTION:Due to wet weather we will be at the Ukiah Library Today \nIn the Winter Months Ukiah Fanwar is on the 1st Sunday of the month from 1pm to 4pm \nWe are located to the right (North) of the play structures and bathrooms at Todd Grove Park in Ukiah.  Parents and Guardians (and Junior GM’s) play for free.  For only $10 a session get 3 hours of  Live Action Role Play. \nDue to negligible travel costs I am charging only $10 for a full 3 hour session in which players can potentially gain TWO experience points instead of the single Exp. during the fall and spring season 2 hour sessions. \nKeep in mind that in order to do this great deal for my local home town\, the set up and pack up are mandatory for ALL participants . What will we be doing at these sessions? Basic Battle scenarios that take place in game world with a splash of plot.  This is designed for children 7 to 12 who needs their weekly fix of action and imagination (older children and adults who are younger at heart can play too.)  Old Characters from last year are welcome to play! \nWhere are we located in the game world?  The Hobbit lands of Telepelec in the eastern region of the game world known as Teriock.   What do you need?   Good running shoes\,  a water bottle (as well as a before dinner snack for the younger ones\,) an active imagination and willingness to follow the directions and guidelines of a game master. \nJoin Us! \nOn rainy\, smokey or extremely HOT days we will be at the Library or “Sword and Board” playing a table top version of  the game.  No more canceling!

SUMMARY:Palo Alto Weekly League (Winter Hours!)
DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP FORMS HERE \nLive Action Role Playing is a tremendous teaching tool and capable of dynamic\, physically driven learning that transcends the usual boundaries of standard education. \nFanwar Camps \n(Palo Alto – Winter 2019-20) \nWinter Hours 12:15-2:45pm & 3:15-5:45pm! \n  \nInformation \n  \nRegistration: New players can only join on the first event of the month.  All families must pre-register for this event. SUMMARY:Ukiah Winter League at Todd Grove Park
DESCRIPTION:In the Winter Months Ukiah Fanwar is on the 1st Sunday of the month from 1pm to 4pm \nWe are located to the right (North) of the play structures and bathrooms at Todd Grove Park in Ukiah.

SUMMARY:Canceled on 10/31/19 due to Fire! Sebastopol Weekly League (Thursdays)
DESCRIPTION:Hello All LARP Families- \nThe Kincade Fire is now only a few miles from my house and all the LARP gear. Unfortunately I was out of town to the north in Fort Bragg getting out of the smoke when the news that the fire was going to cause evacuation due to power outages hit. I had planned to return Sunday\, and so I did not move my truck and trailer\, and was effectively cut off from returning due to the multiple evacuation orders. I spoke with Sebastopol City Police about getting to my gear\, but they said I’m not allowed to cross a mandatory evacuation zone. I cannot get back via Hwy 1\, which is closed\, Hwy 101 which is on the frontline of the fire\, or Hwy 20\, as a new fire near my brothers house just erupted on that road. He is now under evacuation warning. While the evacuation warning may be lifted for my house\, I still cannot get to my house until roads reopen\, and as such I cannot be sure I can do LARP this week. There is too much uncertainty with the access to my supplies\, fire danger\, and air quality concerns. Thus\, all of my events will be canceled until Saturday at the soonest. This means no LARP Wednesday in Palo Alto\, Thursday in Sebastopol\, or at Helios on Friday. If anything changes I will let you know. Hopefully LARP will be back on in time for Saturday Project League and Sunday Club League. \nTake care and wish me luck. Pass this on to all the LARP families you can. \nChristopher \n  \nSIGN UP FORMS HERE \nLive Action Role Playing is a tremendous teaching tool and capable of dynamic\, physically driven learning that transcends the usual boundaries of standard education. The first session from 1:30pm-4pm and trains players in the game\, as well as continues an ongoing story the players themselves are involved in creating. The second session from 4:30pm-7pm continues this story and expands upon it\, challenging players to follow through on their projects and connect to those of others. \nFanwar Camps \n(Sebastopol – Fall 2019) \nFall Hours 1:30-4:00pm & 4:30-7:00pm! \nLocation: The camp is being held at Willard Libby Park in Sebastopol CA. \nSchedule: We plan to meet every Thursday and begin in the afternoon with the first session from 1:30pm-4:00pm and the second from 4:30pm-7:00pm. \n  \nDates: \n\nAug (15th\, 22nd\, 29th) These dates are ONLY for the experienced players who have been playing already.  No new players.\n\n  \n\nSept (5th\,12th\,19th\,26th) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\n  \n\n (3rd\,10th\,17th\,24th\,31st ) New players are welcome so long as they attend from the first day of the month.\n\n  \nFor more on Why LARP is a tremendous teaching tool\, check out the links below!\nhttp://www.fanwar.com/e107_files/downloads/WhyPlayLARP.pdf \nSign Up Forms and more info is available on the home page and below!

SUMMARY:ON! Palo Alto Weekly League (Wednesdays)
DESCRIPTION:10/30/19 Air Quality is looking great.  We are a go for LARP today.  See you all there. \n10/29/19 (6:13pm) Wednesday League is on after all (unless the air quality changes dramatically tomorrow).  Check in the morning to be sure we are a go\, but assuming the air stays good\, we should be there. \n10/29/19 UPDATE! We escaped the north bay.  Yesterday\, just as I finished announcing the cancellation of leagues this week\, the evacuation zone where my house is located was downgraded to evacuation warning\, which meant I could return.  I still had no way to get there\, due to other evacuation zones. But then\, in the late afternoon\, the contiguous zone along the Sonoma Coast was downgraded as well\, and I now had a brief window of calm weather and a route to get home.  Molly and I made the seven hour journey down Hwy 1\, through the eerily empty towns\, to our house where we met with our neighbors\, packed up all the things we couldn’t replace\, got the truck and and trailer\, and headed south to power\, and better air.  We are now in Palo Alto\, staying at my brothers house\, and LARP is now only dependent on Air Quality for the coming weekend. Thursday is still canceled\, Wednesday is a maybe\, depending on Air Quality and Fire developments today\, and Helios is back on\, as we have indoor spaces to use\, as is the weekend as long as air quality is good.  So glad to be where there is power to clean the air.  The combination of smoke and no power to run HVAC systems is dangerous.  I hope everyone else stays safe as well. \n10/28/19 Hello All LARP Families- \nThe Kincade Fire is now only a few miles from my house and all the LARP gear.
