Sebastopol Weekly League (Spring Hours)

April 18, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$20 – $40

Update- I’m on my way.  Should be a bit late, but otherwise the event is on as usual.

Hello All Thursday League Parents,

Due to a medical emergency, I will be late, or may be completely absent from LARP on 4/18/19. I considered canceling all together, but several of the experienced adult players agreed to run the event and sub for me while I am taking care of a relative in need. If all goes well, I should be back right as larp starts, but if things don’t check out, I will have to miss most or all of the day assisting a family member with medical treatments. If you do not feel comfortable having your child attend larp knowing that I may not be there and only the other adults will be, I understand, and you can skip the event. I should know by noon if I will be returning and when, so if you want to wait and see, check in after noon to see what the developments are. Thanks for understanding. I hope to see you all there, but if not, then hopefully next week.

Christopher

Live Action Role Playing is a tremendous teaching tool and capable of dynamic, physically driven learning that transcends the usual boundaries of standard education. Due to the interactive, dramatic, hands on methods used in LARP, teaching is often effortless and fun. Players explore concepts from history, linguistics, political studies, geography, psychology, literature, mythology, engineering, science, mathematics, fine arts, team building, and much, much more in a single session and often don’t even realize they are learning due to the fact that they are the active participant in the process, not the passive receiver.
This event takes place in two parts, weekly, in Sebastopol at Willard Libby Park. The first session is from 1:30pm-4pm and trains players in the game, as well as continues an ongoing story the players themselves are involved in creating. The second session from 4:30pm-7pm continues this story and expands upon it, challenging players to follow through on their projects and connect to those of others. This class provides an after school activity that is social, physical, and mentally challenging in a time when kids more and more are finding sedentary, electronic alternatives to real human interactions. Both sessions involve players making and role playing as characters in a shared imaginary world that spans the Bay Area and has hundreds of players continuously involved in collaborating on the process of storytelling and adventure. These events also tie into the weekend events and other leagues which have been a tradition in the area for the past fifteen years. Players must learn to battle with safe larp weaponry, solve intricate story elements, role play as a wide variety of monsters and creatures of the world, and manage their resources carefully. LARP is helping transform the lives of children all across the Bay Area and beyond.
